School History
St. Joseph's National School
St. Joseph's National School, Knockatallon is one of three primary schools in Tydavnet Parish - along with St. Mary's and St. Dympna's. Together with Barratitoppy School, it catered for children along the south western fringes of the Sliabh Beagh Mountain. With falling numbers in the region, Barratitoppy School and St. Joseph's amalgamated in 1997. The original school was situated near the cross on the road to Knockatallon chapel. The present school was built in 1940 and was refurbished to its present state in 2008. |
